Introduction to Darwin

We have now spent 24 hours in Darwin and Bali is starting to feel like a world away. Went to bed feeling quite tired so it was good to wake up and be able to see our suite in day light and see properly the view from our balcony. We lounged about for several hours before getting up and going shopping. There is a Woolworths supermarket not far from where we are staying so we went of there to get some food for breakfast/ lunch and then explored the area a little bit. It is pretty warm in Darwin at the moment, and quite humid, so walking about with heavy bags of shopping was pretty tiring so we also stopped off at a bar for a quick drink. We also got a bit of sense of some of the racial tensions that seem to occur between some of the white population and the aboriginal people although to early to make a conclusions about this yet.
We came back to our suite and had some of the food we had been lugging around for the past hour. We hadn't eaten since we were on the plane the previous afternoon so we were quite hungry.
We then chilled out for a while, me fighting falling asleep and Nigel perhaps more sensibly succumbing for a while. When we looked we realised it is a mistake it Australia to leave any food lying around, as our plates, worktops etc were covered in miniature ants. It is a mystery to me how then manage to get up to the 22nd floor, but somehow they do. We quickly rinsed everything off and put it in the dishwasher. I also sorted out the washing we had put on earlier (I am certainly appreciating having some mod cons for a while).
Late afternoon we went for a quick explore down to the Stokes Hill Lagoon area near where we are staying. It was quite funny because there was a small Balinese festival taking place, with Balinese dancers which we had not had time to see whilst we were in Bali. Unfortunately we did not have time to linger as we had booked a table at the Korean fusion restaurant Seoul Food at the hotel. Once we got back we just had time to freshen up before going down the dinner. The food was delicious and it appeared to be popular with locals as well as guests. We were back in our room quite early so had time to read, blog and look at photos before bed.
