From the Blue Mountains to the Hunter Valley

This morning we left the Blue Mountains and slowly made our way to the Hunter Valley. Although we were planning to check out by 10am, Veronica was particularly chatty this morning, so much so I didn't think I was ever going to get my toast. This all meant that we were a little late checking out and leaving. I had read something about an aboriginal centre nearby so we decided to go and have a look at that before we left Katoomba altogether. It was actually a little disappointing as it wasn't really much more than a shop, aboriginal art centre and cafe. Nevertheless we had a look round and then had a coffee on the terrace enjoying the view.
We also had a final look at the three sisters before getting on our way. In someways I was glad we weren't going to be there at the weekend as Echo Point was already heaving with visitors.
We needed to get some food for lunch and dinner so stopped off in Leura at the supermarket and also got a few bits at a local deli. The drive for the next hour was uneventful, Nigel drove while I admired the view. We decided to stop off and have our picnic at the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens at Mount Tomah. We didn't have time to explore properly but as they were free to enter and had picnic tables it seemed like a good option. Being on the side of the hill the views from part of the gardens were lovely and the small bit we did see very beautiful.
However given that it was now gone 2pm we knew we needed to get on our way. The scenery continued to be really pretty with a mixture of gum tree forests and farmland.
As we got nearer to the Hunter Valley we drove through a narrow gorge with rocky outcrops on either side. There were lots of signs telling you not to stop due to the risk of rockfalls which wasn't very reassuring.
With only a couple of miles to go until we got to our destination I noticed that there was a beautiful subset so we stopped off for a couple of minutes to have a look.
We got to our cottage at Starline Alpaca Farm with just enough time to unload our bags before the sun went down completely. It was my sister Debbie's birthday so I gave her a call to catch up and wish her a happy birthday. We were both pretty tired after the drive, and so after dinner we just watched the television for a short while before going to bed.
